Monty Panesar, a left-arm spinner of immense talent, plays Test and one-day cricket for England, and county cricket for Northamptonshire.
As a schoolboy, Monty played cricket for Stopsley High School, Bedford Modern School and Luton Town and Indians before making his international career debut in 2001 when he represented England U19.
Whilst continuing a successful county career, Monty went on to make his senior international debut in 2006 in the first Test at Nagpur, becoming the first Sikh to play for England. He could not have wished for a better start to his Test career when he claimed his first wicket by trapping none other than Sachin Tendulkar lbw.
Monty is famed for his ability with the ball, which has enabled him to retain the role of England's number-one spin-bowler in recent Test series. Monty was selected as a Wisden Cricketer of the year in 2007.
Monty is a wonderful asset to our body of Ambassadors and will play an important role in us being able to reach out to local communities.
Monty says: “I was born and live in Luton so it is important to me that I support a charity working with people in and around my home town. Keech Hospice Care aims to help children and adults from all areas of the community to have the best quality of life possible and I am so proud to be part of that goal.”
