London Luton Airport

Airport staff present cheque to hospiceIn 2009, London Luton Airport employees chose Keech Hospice Care as their Charity of the Year. The airport provided an initial donation of £10,000 and employees undertook a year of fundraising to increase this donation.

Staff got involved with marathons, triathlons, a midnight walk, quiz nights, charity collections and even cake baking. The hospice also benefited from the airport's employee volunteering programme, with airport staff helping to clean our hydrotherapy pool and renovate our courtyard garden.

We are delighted to report that by the end of 2009, airport staff had raised a further £26,000! This money has been used to support our new eight-bed Adult In-Patient Unit.

The contribution this year, together with fundraising efforts in previous years, means that London Luton Airport has donated a staggering £167,000 to the charity since we opened in 1991.

Our Chief Executive David White said: "We are very grateful for the support we've received from London Luton Airport and have been really impressed by all the fundraising efforts put in by the airport team. Not only has this helped to raise some of the essential funds we need, it has also helped to increase awareness of our work across our community. I very much hope everyone there shares our sense of pride in this achievement.'

London Luton Airport employees have again selected Keech as their Charity of the Year for 2010. A further £10,000 is pledged to the charity, with employees already planning a whole range of fundraising challenges with a view to surpassing the 2009 total.

Siân Pearce, Community Relations Executive at London Luton Airport said "This represents an incredible team effort. We're delighted we've been able to make a contribution to the work of Keech Hospice Care. This is a charity which is close to many Airport employees' hearts and we're grateful to everybody who has rallied round in support. We're looking forward to building on 2009's efforts with more fundraising activities with employees and passengers alike to continue to make a real difference."
