In-patient care

Our adult In-patient Unit provides specialist palliative care for people with life-limiting illnesses.

Patients are admitted to the In-patient Unit for many reasons. Some are admitted for the assessment and relief of symptoms and will return home when the symptoms have been resolved. Some people are admitted for their end of life care and stay with us for the last few weeks of their life.

Accommodation is provided for up to eight patients in single rooms. While the environment is designed to look as relaxing and homely as possible, all the latest medical and nursing equipment is discretely available for staff to deliver high quality care.

Patients are cared for by our specialist team of doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, therapists and social workers. The high ratio of staff-to-patients ensures an excellent quality of service and personalised care for the patient, their family and friends.

While admitted to the unit, patients and their families are offered a range of therapies, including hydrotherapy, music therapy, and complementary therapies. There is also access to a social worker, chaplaincy support, and pre and post bereavement support from the team of therapists.

Referrals to the In-patient Unit are usually made by the GP, District or MacMillan Nurse.
