Social work support

When someone is very ill, everyone in the family is affected. Our care extends beyond just the treatment of physical symptoms. We also consider the emotional and social needs of patients, their families, friends and support for their carers.

Our multi-professional team includes a social worker, who can talk to patients and families about their current needs, and their hopes and wishes for the future. Our social worker can help people to find solutions as far as possible to current difficulties, and help with the emotional and psychological consequences of someone close to them living with serious illness.

Many families have worries about issues such as employment, finances, housing, their children, practical matters, or future care. Our social worker can help by listening to patients and families, and helping to provide relevant information, advice, and to take forward agreed plans either by patients and families themselves, or by the social worker contacting community services on their behalf.
