Complementary therapies are an important part of the care we provide at the children’s hospice.
Our trained therapists offer a range of treatments including:
- Infant massage
- Massage
- Aromatherapy
- Reflexology
- Reiki
- Indian head massage
Through relaxation, these treatments help alleviate feelings of anxiety, stress and pain.
Therapies can be offered during a stay at Keech Hospice Care.
Complementary therapies are offered during a stay on the Inpatient Unit and on an outpatient basis. We can also offer sessions during Day Care visits on request.
Group Complementary Therapies
Every week one of our therapists carries out a group complementary therapy session with children and carers at the Hospice.
They can teach a range of techniques that can help the parent and their child bond and aid symptom control.
Complementary therapies for the family
Caring for a child with complex health needs can be very stressful and time consuming for a parent.
Our therapists offer the opportunity for parents to enjoy a relaxing therapy treatment and can provide oils and advice to help with stress management, meditation and relaxation techniques.
We have two dedicated therapy rooms at Keech Hospice Care where therapists are able to perform their therapies in a quiet, relaxed environment. This is where we usually offer therapies to older children, carers and parents.
Therapies are usually offered to younger and less-mobile children on the Children's Unit either in a quieter area or if during an Inpatient stay, therapies can be offered in their room.
Massage Tuition
We are pleased to offer regular tuition in how to provide simple massage for your child. These sessions offer much more than just how to massage your child. Each session covers the massage strokes as well as time for discussion of relevant parenting topics.
If you are interested in taking part, please contact a member of the Children's care team or the Complementary Therapy Co-ordinator to find out when the next sessions are available.
