Day Hospice

Day Hospice is provided Tuesday to Friday in our adult hospice and is beneficial for both patients and their families.

Those using Day Hospice enjoy a day away from home and the companionship of others. They have an opportunity to consult with our wide range of professional staff and can participate in a programme of entertainment and activities organised by the Day Hospice team. For families caring at home it also provides a short break.

Throughout the day, patients can access a range of services including:

  • medical and nursing care
  • spiritual and social support
  • complementary therapies
  • hydrotherapy
  • music therapy
  • hairdressing and beauty treatments and;
  • many creative and social activities.

Although everyone has different needs, there is a general routine. People usually arrive around 10.30am, lunch is served at 12.30pm and people leave for home around 3.00pm. Lunch and all refreshments are provided by the hospice.

Transport can be provided by our team of volunteer drivers, in their own cars or in one of our wheel-chair accessible vehicles. Volunteers are also involved with many of the activities that take place in Day Hospice.

During visits to Day Hospice, a patient's care needs will always be reviewed and if beneficial, a short stay in our In-patient Unit may be recommended.

Referrals to Day Hospice are usually made by the Macmillan Nurse or District Nurse.

On Mondays, Day Hospice provides a drop-in day service for carers of patients.
