Music therapy

The ability to appreciate and respond to music is an inborn quality in all human beings.

At Keech Hospice Care, we offer patients the opportunity to explore, express and experience themselves through music, without the need for words.

Depending on the patient and their requirements, music therapy sessions can be carried out one-to-one or in groups. It can involve anything from passive listening, perhaps at the bedside, to actively making music through improvising on a wide range of musical instruments and/or using the voice.

Music therapy can offer a safe, secure space for the release of feelings, in particular for those who are unable to express themselves verbally. Music can also be used to evoke memories or promote relaxation, both of which can be important for those living with a terminal illness.

All music therapy sessions at Keech are led by our qualified music therapist.

Making Music, Sharing Life

We asked some of our patients and their families to tell us about their experiences of music therapy and have recorded this along with some of the songs we use during sessions. We’ve called the collection “Making Music, Sharing Life”*.
