Commencing in the spring last year, we embarked on a project to transform the care we provide in our adult hospice.
This has culminated in the building of a brand new adult In-patient Unit - an 8 bed wing adjoining the current unit.
Work on the building was completed in spring this year and over the summer months the last pieces of equipment and furnishings have been fitted. We have now opened the unit and it is being enjoyed by patients, staff and visitors.
Here are the key features of the new adult unit:
- Bigger bedrooms, all with recliner chairs, entertainment system, garden views, a private patio area and shared en-suites fitted with Jacuzzi baths;
- Piped oxygen direct to patient’s bedsides;
- Ceiling hoists throughout to help patients move around easily;
- A new, larger bereavement suite
- Individually controlled heating, lighting and ventilation in all rooms;
- Peaceful sitting room and large kitchen for relatives to use at their leisure.
- Direct ambulance access
- Storage and preparation areas for drugs and other medical supplies
Additionally, we plan to adapt our existing In-patient Unit to offer more consulting and treatment rooms and are retaining the outdoor garden and courtyard spaces between our buildings.
The new unit was only made possible because of the support of our local community; a community that has understood our vision and participated in various fundraising initiatives over the past year to help us deliver it.
Together, we have created a care environment that will give our patients the dignity and comfort they deserve.
