Keech Hospice Care to benefit from X Factor single

9 November 2011

X FactorOn Monday 10 October, 16 X Factor contestants recorded a single for charity – Rose Royce’s Wishing on a Star and Keech Hospice Care will be a beneficiary.

Proceeds from the single, which is available for download on Sunday 27th November – will be donated to children’s hospices around the UK by ACT & Children’s Hospices UK, who have now joined together to form a new organisation 'Together for Short Lives'.

The single will be aired live on ITV1 on Sunday 27 November. Three quarters of the proceeds after costs will be distributed around the UK’s children’s hospices.

Mike Keel, Chief Executive at Keech Hospice Care said: 'This is really exciting news. It is an opportunity for us to transform the lives of life-limited children and young people in Herfordshire, Milton Keynes and Bedfordshire where we provide the local children’s hospice services.

'Keech provides specialist palliative care for children diagnosed with life-limiting conditions. It also supports their families. Care is offered at the hospice and in the family home through its community nursing team and is provided, free of charge, 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

'But free care costs, and in order to help children enjoy the best quality of life possible, and provide vital support for their family and friends throughout the child’s illness and in bereavement, the hospice has to raise £5m each year – with over 75% coming from the generous support of the local community.'

Whilst the amount likely to be raised is unknown, past singles have raised millions of pounds and Keech is hopeful that a significant sum could be coming its way.
