Arsenal gets the silent treatment for Keech

12 December 2011

Daryl BettessFootball-mad Arsenal fan Daryl Bettess did a sponsored silence for Keech Hospice Care during October’s Chelsea v Arsenal game.

He watched the game in silence at his local pub, The Poynters Arms in Dunstable – a feat even his friends didn’t think he could manage.

Obviously a noisy fan, one of his friends commented to him while they were watching a match that he’d pay good money for Daryl to shut up for once during a game!

Daryl realised there was money to be made, as lots of people would agree with his friend - so he said he’d do it for Keech at the big London Derby. He chose Keech as his niece, Molly Witts, had received care in the children’s unit at the hospice.

Arsenal won the game which ended 3-5. It was a real challenge for Daryl to keep quiet, but he managed it and raised a magnificent £251.50 in the one afternoon.

'It’s a brilliant way to raise money for Keech,' said Director of Fundraising, Jacqui Shepherd. 'Thank you to Daryl and all his friends, and I am sure that Molly is really proud of him for keeping so quiet!'

Keech is the children’s hospice for Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes.
