Keech nurse climbs Kilimanjaro to raise money for hospice

22 February 2013

Mel DavisMel Davis, a Staff Nurse in the Keech adult in-patient unit has decided to take part in the ultimate trekking challenge. She is going to climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro at 5895m in October to raise vital funds for the hospice.

As a keen walker, Mel decided to climb the mountain to support the hospice where she has worked for the last seven years. Mel enjoys long distance walking and has previously walked the 192 miles Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk with her husband raising £2,600 for Keech.

In 2011, Mel again took part in Trek Peru - an extreme overseas challenge - raising over £5,000 for Keech. This involved trekking at high altitude (up to 4600m) and camping at sub-zero temperatures.

Mel Davis said; 'I have worked as a nurse for Keech Hospice Care for nearly 7 years and so know how important it is that funds are raised to enable the high quality of care provided by the hospice to continue. I am undertaking this challenge in memory of the patients I have nursed over the years.'
