A van load of plants was kindly donated to the hospice recently by David Thomas from Hillcrest Nursery garden centre in Hitchin.
Flowering plants and vegetable seeds are to be grown in the hospice gardens by the Palliative Care Centre patients, SENSE (the charity for deafblind people that use some of our offices), Day Care and housekeeping.
'I decided to donate to the Hospice for a few reasons,' says David. 'My grandad recently died from cancer and wanted any money at his funeral donated to the hospice. He didn't use the hospice at all but lived in Luton and had in the past known friends that had stayed at Keech. One of my customers works at the hospice and so I asked her if you needed any plants. I just wanted to try and help.'
He added, 'The seeds that I supplied were a mix of vegetable plants and most of the plants were summer bedding plants like osteospermum, dianthus, geranium and cornflowers as well as others.'
'I hope that the plants and seeds can brighten someone's garden and give people pleasure. I always enjoy working with plants, even on those grey days they are always flowering as best they can and brightening everything up.'
