Our team of fundraisers left Keech Hospice Care on a high this morning, ready to tackle the task awaiting them in Delhi.
Shortly after the group (including Billy Byrne, the BBC’s much loved sparky from DIY SOS) arrive in India, they’ll spend two days volunteering on a project to create a brand new children’s play area at the Cancer Hospice in Delhi.
The group will then embark on a gruelling three day trek through the Himachal Pradesh area of Northern India to the tranquillity of India’s breathtaking mountains and valleys, experiencing rural communities and Dharamsala, home of the Dalai Lama.
Trek India is a special trip organised by Keech Hospice Care, which provides hospice care for adults and children’s from across Hertfordshire (where Billy lives), Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes. This trip of a lifetime, taking place from 2– 11th July, will make a vital contribution to hospice care across two continents.
The aim of both hospice services is to help local adults and children with life-limiting illnesses to enjoy what life they have as best as they can. Both hospices have warmed the heart of Billy, whose daughter died when she was just 20 years old:
“Everyone that is part of the hospices gives so much and puts all their energy into caring. I want to put some of my energy in too and hopefully put a smile on people’s faces, in the same way the staff and volunteers do.”
All of the money raised by the participants of this trek will go towards the running of both the adult and children’s hospice here in Luton and so far the trekkers have raised an incredible £43,854.00!
