Jake Humphrey opens Stepping Stones pathway

Jake Humphrey and Coleman family cutting ribbon across pathJake Humphrey, the current presenter of the BBC’s Formula One coverage and Ambassador for Keech Hospice Care, opened our new Stepping Stones pathway on Saturday 10th April. He was assisted by Andy and Louise Coleman from Dunstable, who were remembering the second anniversary of their son Samuel’s death on the same day as the opening.

Stepping Stones is a pathway set in the grounds of our children’s hospice, dedicated to all the children and families who use the hospice. For as little as £50, anyone can give their support by purchasing a stone with an inscription of their choice.

Taking time out from his busy filming schedule to welcome guests and cut the ribbon across the pathway, Jake said: “The Stepping Stones path is a very meaningful way for people to support the children’s hospice and it’s a real honour and a privilege to be asked to open it today. I came to look around the hospice about a year ago and I could not believe the amazing work that’s being done here. I’m absolutely delighted that the path has been well received so far and hopefully this is just the beginning. It should be fantastic!”

Jake Humphrey and two chidlrenJake, who enjoyed several years presenting on CBBC before embarking on his successful career with BBC sport, is one of nearly 30 people who have already purchased their stone in the pathway, so far raising £16,500. Many have been purchased by hospice families wanting to celebrate their child’s life, while a number of local companies have bought a stone to send their own message of support.

Paving stones can still be bought and added to the Stepping Stones pathway. Over time we hope this will raise a significant sum for the children’s hospice, in the same way our Walk of Life footpath has raised over £55,000 for the adult hospice service since its launch last year.
