Cyclist to ride up Mount Everest

23 May 2011

Neil FraserMilton Keynes surveyor, Neil Fraser, is set to cycle 330mk (205 miles) this July for charity. The event which takes place in France, Switzerland and Italy will be undertaken in less than 18 hours and involves climbing over 8000m across several iconic Alpine passes. With Mt Everest being 8848m, Neil is set to ride almost the equivalent vertical height!

Neil, who is employed as a rural surveyor with Kirkby & Diamond comments: “This is probably the toughest challenge I have ever undertaken. Training so far involves regular commutes from home in Shefford, to Central Milton Keynes – a round trip of almost 50 miles – with longer rides at weekends, and is going well. With the summer approaching I plan to undertake a number of rides between 100-150 miles, but unfortunately there is nothing locally comparable to the high mountain passes of the Alps.”

The cycle ride will be a tough enough challenge, but Neil has chosen to do it for charity. All money raised will be split equally between local charity, Keech Hospice Care and Help for Heroes.

“The recession has had a significant impact on donations to all charities. As one of the few Hospices specialising in care of children, Keech were an obvious choice. Equally, with limited government support, and having had a background in the military, I wanted to help our brave forces personnel who have suffered in recent conflicts. To ensure the charities get the maximum benefit, I am paying most of the costs of the challenge. I have however been sponsored some equipment by Lumi Cycle – which is a tremendous help.
