A once-in-a-lifetime chance to design for Nadiya Hussain

Nadiya Hussain is joining forces with Keech Hospice Care and their Big Trunk Trail to give two lucky people the chance of a lifetime to create the designs for her elephant sculptures.

The Big Trunk Trail – Keech Hospice Care’s fantastic, free, family-friendly Wild in Art event, is a first-of-its-kind art trail for Bedfordshire and will see 30 dazzlingly designed elephant sculptures trumpet around Luton’s landmarks for 11 weeks from July. It’s the jewel in the crown of Keech Hospice Care’s 30th anniversary celebrations, a jumbo-sized thank you from the local charity to their amazing community, for their support over the past 30 years. And someone is going to get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create the designs for Nadiya’s elephants which will take pride of place on the trail.

“As a Lutonian, I think it’s fantastic Keech Hospice Care is bringing such an incredible event to the town,” said Nadiya. “I’ve been lucky enough to visit Keech before and was blown away by what they do. The support they give their patients and families is not only vital but truly inspiring.

“As a mother, I know how hard it is to find things to do with the children over the summer holidays, so something outdoors, creative and free is perfect. And the fact that this will ultimately raise valuable funds for Keech, who need our help right now, is the icing on the cake.”

The competition is open to everyone, from adults to children, professional artists to people who love Nadiya and baking or just fancy giving something different a go. Designs just need to be colourful, fun and have a cake/birthday/baking theme to pay homage to Keech Hospice Care’s 30th birthday. Nadiya will choose a winning child’s design and a winning adult’s design which will be crafted onto calf and adult elephant sculptures and displayed on The Big Trunk Trail. Once the trail ends, they will both be auctioned to raise valuable funds to keep Keech Hospice Care caring.

Liz Searle, CEO of Keech Hospice Care, said: “As Nadiya’s local adult and children’s hospice, I am delighted she is joining our Big Trunk Trail. When she visited us previously, our patients and families were treated to amazing memories to treasure forever. The collective name for elephants is a ‘memory’ and we hope The Big Trunk Trail, and seeing Nadiya’s elephants, will create fantastic new memories for everyone who visits,” Liz continued. “We can’t wait to see everyone’s elephant-shaped birthday and baking-themed works of art!”
