Your questions answered

We accept most items including clothing, shoes, home accessories and electricals. We also have four shops where you can donate your furniture; these are in Welwyn Garden City, Waltham Cross, Stopsley and Harpenden. Please be aware that any furniture with textile sections (such as sofas, armchairs and dining chairs with soft padded seats) must have the original Fire Safety label attached.

We appreciate and accept all donations of clean clothing but there’s no need for them to be freshly laundered.

No, please don’t. We can recycle any clothing that isn’t of saleable quality, and all the proceeds still come to the charity, so please go ahead and donate them – we’ll do the sorting for you.

We’re always grateful for your donation but sadly there are some items we can’t sell such as white goods (washing machines, dishwashers and cookers, for example) and microwaves. Furniture with textile sections (such as sofas, armchairs and dining chairs with soft padded seats) must have the original Fire Safety label attached. Here’s a full list of items we can and cannot sell.

No, we do not. You can take donations to any of our 33 shops in a carrier or bin bag and we will return your bags if you would like us to. We always encourage our shops to recycle carrier bags whenever possible.

We put a lot of research into them and we also get a second opinion from our specialists. If we believe an item is worth a substantial amount of money, we may then sell it on our Keech eBay shop or take it to auction. We want to get the best price for everything you generously donate to us.

If you’re a UK taxpayer, you can Gift Aid your donations. As a charity, we receive 25p for each £1 donated under Gift Aid. This means, for instance, that every £10 raised from the sale of your donations becomes £12.50 – at no extra cost to you!

No, Gift Aid does not affect your personal tax allowance. However, if you pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

Please ask in store for a Gift Aid declaration form when you make your donation and the shop team will be happy to explain more.

You can sign up to Gift Aid with lots of different charities but you will need to sign a Gift Aid declaration form for each of them. Once you’re signed up, we will give you a card with your unique Gift Aid number. Don’t worry if you forget your card for future donations as we can search using your surname and postcode.

We have 33 shops across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes, which means you are never far from a Keech Hospice Care shop. To find your nearest shop click here.

All shops are open 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday. Berkhamsted, St Albans, Newport Pagnell Home and the Outlet are also open 10am to 4pm on Sunday. All our shops are closed on bank holidays. Find your nearest shop here.

Most of our shops have parking available outside for dropping off donations and all our shops have shoppers’ parking nearby. If you’re donating to one of our shops, the shop team will be happy to help you, wherever possible.

Over £1 million of our funding comes from money generated by our charity shops. We desperately need you to hand in your donations so we can turn your great clutter into great care. We use this money to care for children and adults with life-limiting illnesses. Every time you donate, or buy something in one of our 33 shops, you are making the difference to the lives of our patients and their families when it matters the most.

Yes, please! We rely on the valuable time our volunteers give to our 33 shops, warehouse and eBay shop. Without our amazing volunteers, we wouldn’t survive. If you have a few hours to spare, we’d love to welcome you to the team. Please call us on 01582 707955, email joinme@keech.org.uk or visit your local shop for more information.
